Bobcats Open 2009 At Wagner
The Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team opens the 2009 campaign at Wagner, Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats are coming off a successful 2008 season in which they qualified for the inaugural Great Western Lacrosse League Tournament and Head Coach Eric Fekete was named GWLL Coach of the Year. The Bobcats finished 8-5 (2-3 GWLL), while the Seahawks were 0-15 (0-8 MAAC).
Scouting the Seahawks
The Seahawks return their top four point scorers from a year ago. Senior Jeff Policicchio led the Seahawks in both assists (10) and points (26), while sophomore Will Macumber had a team-high 18 goals. Senior Brian Poissant (12) and junior Sean Travis (10) also contributed at least 10 points. The Seahawks also return senior Brandon Waszak and junior Matthew McVie, who split time in net last season.
Junior goalie Kevin Benzing returns for the Bobcats after posting a .543 saves percentage and 8.75 goals-against average last season. Benzing, who transferred to Quinnipiac after spending his freshman year at Drexel, was named the GWLL Player of the Week in the final week of the season. He earned the award after stopping 15 Bellarmine shots in a 6-5 win to help the Bobcats to a GWLL Tournament berth.
