Matthew Peca Named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week

Quinnipiac men's ice hockey sophomore Matthew Peca was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Mar. 4.

Peca had a memorable weekend, posting the only six-point performance this season in NCAA Division I hockey. Peca had two goals and four assists in the Bobcats' 8-0 win at St. Lawrence. In the process, he tied the Quinnipiac record for points in a game, while also becoming the 37th player in QU history and the 23rd at the Division I level to reach the 100-point mark.

Quinnipiac is currently the only team in NCAA Division I ice hockey with four players on their roster with 100 career points, including Peca, Connor and Kellen Jones and Jordan Samuels-Thomas.

In addition, he became the first junior since Brandon Wong in 2008-09 to reach the century mark. Peca picked up his seventh point of the weekend on Quinnipiac's only goal in a 1-1 tie at Clarkson.

For the week, Peca led all NCAA Division I players in points (7), assists (5), power play assists (3)and power play points (4) for the weekend. This season, Peca leads the Bobcats with 22 assists while ranking fourth with 34 points.

Quinnipiac is idle this weekend  with a bye after securing the No. 3 seed for the 2014 ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament First Round. The Bobcats will host a best-of-three games quarterfinal series on Mar. 14-16 at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.
