No. 4 Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Falls To Brown, 4-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Nationally-ranked No.4 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey lost to Brown, 4-2, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 21-6-5 overall and 11-4-3 in ECAC Hockey play. Brown improves to 10-12-3 overall and 7-10-1 in league action.

Kellen Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) had a goal and an assist to lead Quinnipiac while Sam Anas (Potomac, Md.) also scored for the Bobcats. Devon Toews (Abbotsford, British Columbia), Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) and Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) all had assists for Quinnipiac.

Off a defensive-zone turnover by Quinnipiac, Massimo Lamacchia gave Brown a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game with his sixth goal of the year. Matt Lorito intercepted a pass just below Quinnipiac's blue line, split two Bobcats defensemen before back-handing a pass to Lamacchia on the back door for the one-timer as Brown took an early one-goal lead.

With 8:24 to play, Garnet Hathaway gave Brown a 2-0 lead with his fourth marker of the season. Ryan Jacobson started the play with a shot on goal from the face-off circle to Garteig's left that the sophomore goalie played off his pads. Dennis Robertson was there to pick up the rebound and center a pass to Hathaway for the re-direct into the goal as Brown took a two-goal lead.

Anas scored his team-leading 18th goal of the year just 35-seconds into the second period with the Bobcats on the power play. After Brown's Kyle Kramer was called for a high-sticking inside of the first 10 seconds of the period, Devon Toews (Abbotsford, British Columbia) carried the puck out from behind the Bobcats goal and passed it over to Kellen Jones (Montrose, British Columbia). Jones skated over center ice and dropped the puck back to Anas who steered through the Brown zone and across the crease for back-handing a shot past Brown's Marco De Filippo to cut the Bears' lead in half.

Hathaway answered moments later when he skated into the Bobcats' defensive zone down the left flank of the ice. Hathaway looked across ice and attempted to find Ryan Jacobson in the slot, but the puck deflected off a Quinnipiac defenseman's stick and re-directed past Garteig on a fluke bounce to push Brown's lead back to two goals, 3-1.

With 6:22 left in the second period, Brown's Nick Lappin collected a rebound in the face-off circle to the right of Garteig and blasted a shot to the near post to give Brown a 4-1 lead. Quinnipiac responded with its second power play goal of the afternoon when Kellen Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) lit the lamp with 4.7 seconds remaining in the second period. Jones carried the puck over center ice and fed Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario). Peca maneuvered through traffic, skating between the face-off circles before giving the puck back to Jones for the one-timer from the point. The goal was Jones' 16th of the year while Peca converted on his 16th assist of the year while also picking up his 95th point of his career.

Quinnipiac returns home next weekend when it hosts Cornell on Friday, Feb. 21 and Colgate on Saturday, Feb. 22, with both games available on New England Sports Network (NESN). Quinnipiac Athletics and High Point Solutions Arena will host Senior Night festivities prior to the start of the Bobcats' tilt against Colgate.
