Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Ranked 4th In USCHO.com Division I Poll On Monday, Feb. 10
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was ranked 4th in the latest USCHO.com Division I poll released on Monday, Feb. 10. Quinnipiac split its two-game weekend and stand at 20-5-5 overall and 10-3-3 in ECAC Hockey play.
The Bobcats defeated No. 14 Clarkson on Friday, Feb. 7, 6-3, before falling to St. Lawrence on Saturday, Feb. 8, 3-2. The Bobcats were previously ranked third in the last three national polls before this weekend's loss to St. Lawrence. The Bobcats also dropped to fifth in the PairWise Rankings, a real-time updated ranking system that mirrors the model used by the NCAA committee to build the annual tournament field.
This weekend saw several highlights for Quinnipiac, including:
- After scoring 10-seconds into the Bobcats win against Clarkson, Connor Jones became the first player in NCAA men's ice hockey history to score 10-seconds into a game twice in his career. In the game prior to Quinnipiac's win against Clarkson, Jones scored eight-seconds into an 8-1 blow-out of Dartmouth on Jan. 31.
- Matthew Peca scored twice against Clarkson, and also assisted on a goal, before also scoring against St. Lawrence on Saturday. Peca is enjoying a six-game point streak that features six goals and five assists for 11 points in the span. For the year, Peca has 10 goals and 15 assists and is on the hunt for his 100th career point. He currently features 33 goals and 61 assists for 94 career points.
- Travis St. Denis had a team-best five points for the weekend. St. Denis turned in a four-assist showing against Clarkson on Friday before also picking up an assist on Saturday night. The sophomore wing has already surpassed his first-year numbers, totaling 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points to date. He also has three goals and six assists for nine points in his last five games.
- Bryce Van Brabant scored in both games this weekend to give him a marker in three-straight appearances, and seven goals in his last six games. For the year, Van Brabant has a career-best 13 goals with five assists for 18 points.
