The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team moved up one spot in the USCHO.com Division I Poll from last week. The Bobcats jumped from fifth to fourth in the latest poll, released on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. The Bobcats are 18-4-5 overall and 8-2-3 in ECAC Hockey
The Bobcats split a weekend series against Merrimack, with the home team winning in both contests. Quinnipiac knocked off the Warriors, 6-1, on the strength of four goals in the first five minutes of the second period as well as a pair of goals from Bryce Van Brabant (Morinville, Ontario). Jordan Samuels-Thomas (West Hartford, Conn.) and Kellen Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) both tallied a goal and an assist each while Dan Federico (Acton, Mass.) had two assists. Connor Jones and Brayden Sherbinin (Kelowna, British Columbia) also scored for Quinnipiac.
On Saturday night, it was the Warriors pulling away victoriously on their home ice, trumping the Bobcats, 6-3, before a sell-out crowd at Merrimack's Lawler Rink. Sam Anas (Potomac, Md.) scored twice, while Devon Toews (Abottsford, British Columbia) had two assists. Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) also scored for Quinnipiac.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Friday, Jan. 31 when it travels to Hanover, N.H. to take on Dartmouth in an ECAC Hockey match-up at Thompson Arena at 7 p.m.
