The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was ranked 7th in the latest USCHO.com Division I poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Division I poll, released on Jan. 6, 2014. The Bobcats are currently 15-3-4 overall and 6-2-2 in ECAC Hockey.
Quinnipiac sat in the No. 8 spot for the last two weeks, but jumped a spot to 7th after a 2-1 win against Maine. Against the Black Bears, Quinnipiac senior Jordan Samuels-Thomas (West Hartford, Conn.) knocked home the game-winning goal with just over a minute remaining in regulation to push the nationally-ranked No. 8 Bobcats past Maine, 2-1, in a non-conference match-up at High Point Solutions Arena in Hamden, Conn. Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) set-up both goals while sophomore goalie Michael Garteig(Prince George, British Columbia) backstopped the Bobcats with 29 saves on 30 Maine shots. Kellen Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) beat Maine goalie Martin Ouellette for his 11th marker of the year while Cory Hibbeler (St. Charles, Mo.) and Dan Federico (Acton, Mass.) also had assists.
The nationally-ranked No. 7 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team will travel to Cambridge, Mass. on Tuesday, Jan. 7 to take on Harvard at the Bright Hockey Center at 7 p.m. The Bobcats host Union and Rensselaer on Jan. 10-11 before hosting Merrimack on Friday, Jan. 17 for the first contest of a two-game set that includes a trip to the Warriors home ice on Saturday, Jan. 18.
