ASIAGO, ITALY – Kevin Bui scored twice to highlight six different Bobcats that scored in the Quinnipiac's 7-0 win against Asiago in the first of a two-game series. The Bobcats and Asiago wrap-up their Challenge Cup Series on Sunday, Aug. 18.
Cory Hibbeler put Quinnipiac on the board early in the game with assists going to Travis St. Denis and Jordan Samuels-Thomas. Coming out of the first intermission with a 3-0 lead, the Bobcats scored three times in the period to take a 5-0 lead. Zach Luczyk took a pass from Brooks Robinson to give Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead, before Bryce Van Brabant cleaned up a loose puck in front of the Asiago goal to give Quinnipiac a 3-0 lead.
Bui scored a power-play goal when he won a battle for a loose puck in the corner and sent the puck out to Dan Federico at the point. Bui snuck between the face-off circles where Federico gave the puck back to him. He then fired the puck past a screened goalie to give Quinnipiac a 4-0 lead.
Jonzzon found his way into the scoring column when he picked up a rebound and scored. Kellen Jones scored a brilliant goal when he found himself on a breakaway. Skating down the right wing, Jones pulled the back to his left before going to the backhand and banging the puck off the crossbar to give the Bobcats a 6-0 lead. Bui's second goal of the night came with less than five minutes to play to cap the scoring.
Lost in the shuffle was Quinnipiac goal Michael Garteig, who only saw five shots on goal for the night – all of which he stopped for the shutout.
Quinnipiac graduates Loren Barron and Reese Rolheiser both suited up for Asiago as a tryout for the duo.
