Eric Hartzell Wins Third Consecutive Hogan Hockey/ ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month Honor

Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey January Monthly Awards

Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior goalie Eric Hartzell has been named the Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month for January, as announced by the league office on Thursday, Jan. 31. Hartzell is the first goalie to earn monthly recognize in three consecutive months since the awards inception in 2011-12. 

For the month, Hartzell was 4-0-1 for the month of January, with a 1.56 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage after stopping 108 of 116 shots on goal. He stopped 27 of 29 in a 3-2 win against Dartmouth and 21 of 23 in a 6-2 win of Harvard. He then went on to stop 24 of 25 in a 1-1 tie with Rensselaer before picking up a pair of wins against Union (W, 3-2; 15 saves) and UConn (W, 2-1; 21 saves). He was also the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week on Jan. 9, 2013.

For the year, Hartzell is currently 18-2-3 for a NCAA-leading .848 winning percentage, as well as a nation-leading win total. The 6-4 goalie also ranks 1st in goals-against average (1.48), 2nd in shutouts (4) and 10th in save percentage (.934). He was recently featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces In The Crowd" and is a Hobey Baker Award nominee, as well as a two-time ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week (Dec. 4, Jan. 9) winner.

Quinnipiac, currently in first place in the ECAC Hockey standings at 11-0-1, returns to action on Friday, Feb. 1 when it travels to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown at Meehan Auditorium at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 2 the Bobcats will face No. 7/8 Yale at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. at 7 p.m., in an ECAC Hockey match-up that can be seen live on CPTV Sports, where available.
