Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey's Eric Hartzell Named ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) was named the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week on Tuesday, Dec. 4 while the league office.
Hartzell had a brilliant weekend, posting a 2-0-0 record that features a shutout against nationally-ranked No. 7/8 Union, 4-0 on Friday, Nov. 30, before holding Rensselaer to one goal in a 3-1 win in Troy, N.Y. Hartzell stopped 41-of-42 shots on goal, for a .976 save percentage, including all 20 against Union and 21 of 21 against RPI. In 119:57 seconds of action in net, Hartzell allowed just one goal for a 0.50 goals-against average.
For the year, Hartzell improved to 10-2-2 (6-0-0 ECAC Hockey) with a 1.41 goals-against average (1.33 ECAC Hockey) and a .934 save percentage (.933 ECAC Hockey).
The honor is Hartzell's third of his career, after he previously won on Jan. 10, 2012 and Jan. 4, 2011, for the second most weekly goalie honors since Quinnipiac joined ECAC Hockey for the 2005-06 season. Dan Clarke '10 won five ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week awards in his career, while Bud Fisher also won three. On Monday, Dec. 3, Hartzell was also named the Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month for November.
