Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Dealt 2-0 Exhibition Loss By Acadia
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team lost to Acadia, 2-0, in an exhibition game played at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
Acadia's Michael Ward scored both of Acadia's goals in the exhibition win, with Jonathan Laberge credited with an assist on both. Brett Thompson also had an assist on the first goal of the game.
Quinnipiac freshman Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) got the start in goal and held Acadia scoreless over the game's first 29:32. Garteig denied 13 shots on goal before exiting midway through the second period in favor of classmate Jacob Meyers (Chanhassen, Minn.). Meyers had five saves in the game.
Both team's played to a scoreless tie through the first period, and half of the second period, before Ward's first goal put the Axemen out in front. Laberge played the puck out of the corner to the left of Meyers behind the goal where Thompson found Ward in the slot for the one-timer.
Ward's second goal came less than two minutes into the third period. After Laberge was hip-checked into the Bobcats' goal, which lifted the back-end up but did not dislodge it, Laberge picked up a loose puck and found Ward's tape in the face-off circle to the right of the goal. Ward one-timed a shot past Meyers, who may have been otherwise distracted by the goal's movement.
Quinnipiac will host Robert Morris on Oct. 13-14 at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.
