The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team received 24 votes in the first USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Division I Poll, released earlier this week.

The Bobcats' 24 votes leave them just out of the poll's top 15 programs, positioning them 18th nationally. Quinnipiac is coming off its 16th consecutive non-losing season in 2011-12 when they posted a 20-14-6 record. It was also Quinnipiac's 14th 20-win season in the past 18 years. The Bobcats also extended their streak of consecutive season's with a postseason series victory to six, good for each year Quinnipiac has been a member of ECAC Hockey.

On Wednesday, Sept. 26, ECAC Hockey released its 2012-13 Preseason Coaches and Media Polls. The Bobcats were tabbed to finish fourth in both polls, while junior assistant captain Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) was a consensus pick to the preseason team. Jones led Quinnipiac with 41 points last season on 13 goals and 28 assists. Twin brother Kellen finished with 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points as the duo were the only Bobcat players to reach double figures in goals and assists. First-year phenom Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) led the team with 31 assists while Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) led Quinnipiac with 17 goals, for the second consecutive season. Langlois comes into this season as the active leading goal scorer in ECAC Hockey.

Senior captain Zack Currie (Victoria, British Columbia), a defenseman, had a break-out season, scoring a career-best nine goals before being chosen by his peers as their leader. Defenseman Loren Barron (Glendora, Calif.) also found the back of the net nine games, making Quinnipiac the only team in NCAA Division I hockey to boast a line-up featured two defenseman to score nine goals in a season.

Quinnipiac will host its annual Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Media Night on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the TD Bank Sports Center's University Club. Quinnipiac men's ice hockey head coach Rand Pecknold and women's ice hockey head coach Rick Seely will preview this year's teams while also taking questions from media and fans. The event is open the public, with an admission of $25 which features a buffet dinner and 2012-13 media guides.

The Bobcats will once again host Nebraska Omaha on Dec. 29-30 and will also host Connecticut on Jan. 22.
