ALBANY, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was picked by both the ECAC Hockey coaches and media to finish the 2012-13 season in fourth place, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Junior assistant captain Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) was a consensus selection by the coaches and media as an ECAC Hockey Preseason All-League forward.

Both the ECAC Hockey head coaches and media picked the same top six teams in the exact same order, with Union, Cornell, Harvard and Quinnipiac holding down the top four spots. Yale dropped in behind the Bobcats, followed by St. Lawrence. The coaches then predicted Dartmouth, Rensselaer, Colgate, Clarkson, Princeton and Brown to round out the field. The media picked Clarkson to finish seventh, followed by Colgate, Rensselaer and Dartmouth, with Princeton and Brown finishing 11th and 12th. Union received eight first-place votes in the coaches poll, and 18 of the 30 media members votes. 2011-12 All-ECAC Hockey selection Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) headlines a dynamic core of forwards after leading the Bobcats in scoring with 41 points. Connor shared the team's Most Valuable Player honor with his twin brother Kellen, who finished the year second in goals scored (14) and third in points (36). The twin brothers, who will also serve as assistant captains, were the only two Bobcats to reach double figures in goals and assists last season. Joining them will be All-ECAC Hockey Rookie Team selection Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) who led the program with 31 assists in his first season. The Bobcats line-up will also feature ECAC Hockey's current active leading goal scorer in Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.). Langlois led Quinnipiac in goals in each of the last two season, 18 and 17 respectively. Jordan Samuels-Thomas (West Hartford, Conn.) will suit up for the Bobcats after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules after coming over from Bowling Green. Samuels-Thomas led the Falcons in scoring in the two seasons he played for BGSU. Assistant captain Cory Hibbeler (St. Louis, Mo.) has shown increased production in each of his first two seasons and provides and invaluable locker room presence.

The Bobcats defensive pairings will feature a veteran core that has combined to compile over 500 career games. Led by captain Zack Currie (Victoria, British Columbia), the D-Unit took on an offensive mindset in 2011-12. Currie and Loren Barron (Glendora, Calif.) gave Quinnipiac the only lineup in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey with a pair of defenseman to score nine goals in a season. Zach Davies (Smithers, British Columbia) and Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) have been mainstays in the Bobcats' lineup since touching down in Hamden while Zach Tolkinen (Lino Lakes, Minn.) and Dan Federico (Acton, Mass.) bring experience and depth to the Bobcats blue lines.

In goal, Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) returns after a break-out season as a junior in 2011-12. The senior goalie broke Jamie Holden's single-season goals-against average record, posting a 2.20 GAA. His 2.24 career GAA is also the tops all-time entering the season. Hartzell was also 2-1 with a 1.67 GAA and a .939 save percentage in the 2011-12 ECAC Hockey Tournament, where he also posted this third career postseason shutout.

Quinnipiac will host its annual Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Media Night on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the TD Bank Sports Center's University Club. Quinnipiac men's ice hockey head coach Rand Pecknold and women's ice hockey head coach Rick Seely will preview this year's teams while also taking questions from media and fans. The event is open the public, with an admission of $25 which features a buffet dinner and 2012-13 media guides.

Quinnipiac opens the 2012-13 season at Maine on Saturday, Oct. 6 before returning home to host Acadia on Sunday, Oct. 7 at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center at 4 p.m. In addition to its already competitive ECAC Hockey slate, the Bobcats will feature another challenging non-conference schedule. The Bobcats host Robert Morris for Parents Weekend on Oct. 13-14 and Ohio State on Oct. 19-20.  American International comes to the Bank on Nov. 6 before Quinnipiac plays back-to-back non-conference games at Providence on Nov. 20 and Massachusetts on Nov. 24. The Bobcats will once again host Nebraska Omaha on Dec. 29-30 and will also host Connecticut on Jan. 22.
