Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Clinches Home Ice In ECAC Hockey Tournament With 2-2 Tie Against No. 13 Rensselaer

TROY, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team secured home-ice advantage for the first round of the ECAC Hockey tournament with a 2-2 tie against nationally-ranked No. 13 Rensselaer at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. With the tie, Quinnipiac finishes the regular season at 13-13-8 overall and 6-9-7. Quinnipiac will be seeded 8th for the upcoming ECAC Hockey tournament and host No. 9 Brown on March 4-6 at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.

"I'm proud of how we competed and battled this weekend. To know that we needed two points this weekend and went out and got them is encouraging," head coach Rand Pecknold said.

Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal, Quebec) and Brooks Robinson (Duncan, British Columbia) both scored for the Bobcats, while sophomore goalie Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) stopped 31 of RPI's 33 shots on goal. Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland), Spencer Heichman (Yorba Linda, Calif.), Ben Arnt (Oakdale, Minn.) and Zack Currie (Victoria, British Columbia) all had assists in the game.

Guy Leboeuf put the Engineers on top at the 2:09 mark with his second goal of the season. Leboeuf received a pass from John Kennedy at the point and unleashed a shot on Quinnipiac goalie Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) that beat the sophomore goalie five-hole. Tyler Helfrich was also credited with an assist.

Bouharevich tied the game just under three minutes into the second period. Dalhuisen picked up the puck along the boards and centered a pass to Heichman who hooked up with Bouharevich in the slot. Bouharevich fell but kept control of the puck and as he slid across the crease but was able to find the back of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Robinson scored his second goal in as many nights to give Quinnipiac a 2-1 lead at the 7:14 mark of the second period. Arnt handled the puck above the left face-off circle and put a shot on goal that sailed wide. Currie picked up the puck along the boards in front of the Bobcats' bench and sent the puck through traffic. Robinson, sitting in the slot, tipped the puck over the outstretched leg of York and into the goal to give the Bobcats a one-goal lead.

RPI tied the game at 2-2 at the 11:43 mark of the second period when Joel Malchuk scored his sixth goal of the season on an assist from Greg Burdendoefer. Malchuk started the play and sent the puck to Burgendoefer, who sent it back to Malchuk for the tying goal.
