All-Time Against Princeton
Quinnipiac is 5-8-0 against Princeton all-time, including a 3-3-0
mark at Hobey Baker Rink all-time. The Bobcats won the first three
meetings between the two teams at the historic rink, but have not
salvaged a victory there since Nov. 21, 2007, losing three
straight. Quinnipiac won four of the first six meetings between the
two teams but have won just once in the last seven games against
the Tigers.
Scouting Princeton University
Princeton is currently 10-5-0 overall and 6-3-0 in ECAC Hockey,
good for a tie for first place in the league standings with
nationally-ranked No. 1 Yale. Princeton has won five straight
games, including a two-game sweep of UMass Lowell and
non-conference wins against Bowling Green and Connecticut to
capture the Toyota Connecticut Hockey Classic. The Tigers have won
eight of their last 10 games and 10 of their last 12. It is their
first ECAC Hockey match-up since Dec. 4, a 5-1 win against St.
Lawrence. Freshman Andrew Calof leads Princeton in points (16) and
assists (14) while also scoring a pair of goals. Seniors Mike
Kramer (4-9--13) and Taylor Fedun (4-7--11) are the only other
Princeton skaters to reach double digit scoring totals so far. Matt
Arhontas leads Princeton with seven goals. In goal, Sean Bonar and
Mike Condon have split the minutes over the last 12 games with
Bonar posting a 5-1-0 record with a NCAA-leading 1.16 GAA and a
.950 save percentage while Condon is 4-2-0 with a .928 save
percentage and a 2.18 goals-against average.
Big
Week
Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) stopped 97 of 101 shots on
goal last week for a pair of wins against nationally-ranked No. 8/9
Nebraska Omaha. Hartzell stopped 53 of Nebraska Omaha's 56 shots on
goal on Thursday. On Friday, Hartzell once-again stone-walled the
opposition, stopping 44 of 46 shots on goal.
The
Flying Barron
Loren Barron's four points against Nebraska Omaha on Thursday, Dec.
30 were a season-high for the Bobcats, and a personal best for the
second year defenseman. Barron entered the two-game set against
Nebraska Omaha with four points on the season before a six-point
out burst in the series sweep.
Four
for 4
Barron's four-point game was the first one at Quinnipiac since
Eric Lampe did it against Harvard on Nov. 13, 2009.
Six
Points In Two Nights
Barron's six-point effort against the Mavericks gave the defenseman
the highest two-game total this season among all Bobcats skaters.
He is also the first player to score six points in consecutive
games since Jean-Marc Beaudoin did it against Brown and Yale on
Feb. 26-27 last season. Beaudoin also had a three-point night his
next game against Dartmouth on March 5.
One
More Barron Note
Barron's three assists against Nebraska Omaha make him the first
Bobcat this season with a three-assist game. It's his second of his
career, after doing so against Brown on Feb. 26 last season.
Russ
The Bus
Russell Goodman scored twice in the Bobcats' 3-2 win against
Nebraska Omaha on Friday, Dec. 31. Goodman's two goals were a
career best, and just the second multiple-point game of his
career.
Back-2-Back
On Thursday, Dec. 30, Scott Zurevinski scored twice in the Bobcats'
win against UNO. On Friday, Dec. 31, Russell Goodman also lit the
lamp twice. It was the first time this season that Quinnipiac
received multiple-goal games on consecutive nights. Last season,
Brandon Wong and Jean-Marc Beaudoin each had back-to-back two goal
games. It was the first time since Nov. 14-15, 2008 when two
different players did it. Matt Sorteberg scored twice against Union
on Nov. 14 before Zurevinski scored twice against RPI on Nov.
15.
Hansen From The Point
Zach Hansen scored the game-winner against Nebraska-Omaha on
Friday, Dec. 31, his first goal of the season.
Very
Impressive
With their win against Nebraska Omaha on Thursday, Dec. 30, the
Bobcats ran their unbeaten streak when leading after the second
period to 57 games. The Bobcats are 52-0-5 when they have a lead
heading into the final period since March 17, 2007.
Showing A Lot Of Hart(zell)
Quinnipiac sophomore Eric Hartzell had a career night against
Nebraska Omaha on Friday night, stopping 53 of 56 shots on goal en
route to his sixth win of the season. Hartzell stopped the first 40
shots he saw the Mavericks' offense before UNO got on the board in
the second period. After letting up three of the next six shots,
Hartzell slammed the door and stopped the last eight shots he saw
on the night.
The
Most Since...
Hartzell's 53 saves against UNO was a career-best and the most by
Quinnipiac goalie since Dan Clarke stopped 73 against Union in the
ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals last season. It was the most in a regular
season since Bud Fisher stopped 42 against Dartmouth on Feb. 28,
2009.
Jeremy Spoke In...
Jeremy Langlois tallied a goal and an assist Thursday's win, and
added an assist in the Bobcats win on Friday, giving him six goals
and five assists for 11 points for the year.
Getting Ahead Early
Quinnipiac is 9-1-0 this season in the 10 games in which it has
scored first.
Thrice Is Nice
Quinnipiac is 6-1-1 in eight games in which it has scored three
goals and 8-2-1 in games in which it has scored three or more.
