Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Travels To Brown, No. 5/6 Yale This Weekend

Hockey Action
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team will kick-off its
2010-11 ECAC Hockey schedule against Brown University on Friday,
Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I. On
Saturday, Nov. 6, the Bobcats return to the Greater New Haven area
to face Yale University in a 7 p.m. game at Ingalls Rink in New
Haven, Conn. Quinnipiac is 4-2-0, while Brown stands at 1-1-0 and
Yale is 2-0-0.

As always, Bobcat fans can follow all the action live on WQUN 1220
AM with the play by play from the "Voice of the Bobcats" Bill
Schweizer. This weekend's games can also be found on WPOP 1410 AM
and will also feature color commentary from NHL veteran Chris

All-Time Against Brown
Quinnipiac holds the advantage in the all-time series against Brown
with wins in eight of the 12 meetings all-time. Quinnipiac had won
five straight before a 3-2 loss to Brown at the TD Bank Sports
Center on Feb. 21, 2009 and a 2-1 loss in Providence to the Bears
on Dec. 5. Quinnipiac won the last meeting between the two teams,
8-3, at the TD Bank Sports Center on Feb. 27, 2010. Quinnipiac is
2-4-0 all-time at Meehan Auditorium.
Scouting Brown
Brown is currently 1-1-0 following a 7-4 season-opening loss to
Yale on Oct. 29 and a 2-1 win against Princeton on the following
night. Five different Bears have scored for Brown across its first
two games, led by a pair from freshman Dennis Robertson. Junior
Jack Mclellan leads Brown with three assists, to go along with one
goal, for a team-high four points. In goal, Mike Clemente saw 47
shots, stopping 40, in a 7-4 loss to Yale last weekend while Marco
DeFilippo turned back 29 of 30 shots by Princeton to hold on for
the 2-1 win.
All-Time Against Yale
Quinnipiac is 6-3-1 all-time against Yale. Quinnipiac won five of
the first six meetings against the Bulldogs, and have posted a
1-2-1 record over the last two seasons. Quinnipiac is 3-2-0
all-time at Ingalls Rink.
Scouting Yale
Yale opened the 2010-11 season with a pair of wins against Brown
(7-4) and Dartmouth (7-3) last weekend. The Bulldogs are currently
ranked fifth in the USCHO.com Division I poll and sixth in the USA
Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. Through the Bulldogs first two
games, Denny Kearney leads all skaters with four goals and four
assists for eight points, while Broc Little and Brian O'Neill have
both scored three times.
Mandi's March
The Yale Club of New Haven, in cooperation with the Athletic
Departments of Yale and Quinnipiac Universities, presents a day of
events to support Yale women's ice hockey center Mandi Schwartz
(Wilcox, Sask.) and her family in her two-year battle with
leukemia. On Saturday, Nov. 6, when the Yale men's ice hockey team
hosts Quinnipiac at Ingalls Rink, the day will begin with "Mandi's
March" along 7.5 miles of the historic Farmington Rails-to-Trail
Linear Park between the two schools' hockey rinks. The annual Yale
Club Hockey Night Dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. that night, and
the game begins at 7 p.m.
Quinnipiac and Yale alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents, friends and their guests are all welcome.
Mandi's March begins between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the trailhead opposite the entry drive to Quinnipiac's TD Bank Sports Center on Sherman Ave. in Hamden. Mandi's supporters will travel by the human-powered conveyance of their choice down the trail to Sachem St. and Ingalls Rink at Yale. Entry will be by donation, with prizes for each 10th finisher and a special event T-shirt for each participant. A minimum donation of $15 is suggested.
Quinnipiac Athlete of the Month
Quinnipiac freshman Kellen Jones was named the Quinnipiac Athlete
of the Month for October. Jones led the Bobcats in goals (3) and
points (6), while also ranking second with three assists. Jones had
an assist in his first collegiate game, a 2-1 win against Ohio
State before picking up a pair of assists, on the game-tying and
game-winning goals, in a 3-2 win against Bentley. He then scored
twice to break-up a 1-1 tie with Holy Cross to help Quinnipiac to a
3-1 win against the Crusaders. He also had a goal against
nationally-ranked St. Cloud State this past weekend.
The
Other One, Too
Connor Jones, Kellen's twin brother, is currently tied for the team
lead with four assists through his first six collegiate games.
Connor has also added a goal for five points.
Yuri-ka
Junior Yuri Bouharevich was one of three players in the Bobcats
line-up to total two points in the weekend series at St. Cloud
State. Bouharevich scored once and added an assist to push his
season total to one goal, four assists for five points.
Tyson's Punch-Out
Bobby Tyson, seeing his first career action at right wing, scored
his second career goal against St. Cloud on Friday to tie the game
at 2-2. Tyson's goal swung the Bobcats' momentum en route to a 4-2
upset of the No. 17 Huskies. Tyson also added an assist for his
first career multiple-point game.
Underrated Line
On Friday, Oct. 29, Quinnipiac's fourth line consister of left wing
Ben Arnt, center Brooks Robinson and Tyson, on the right wing,
entered the game without a point amongst the three of them. When
the dust settled on the Bobcats' 4-2 upset, they had tallied four
points (2 goals, 2 assists) for the night.
Hometown Guy
Ben Arnt, from Oakdale, Minn., scored his first goal of the season
in front of his "hometown" crowd in the Bobcats' 4-2 win against
St. Cloud State.
Only
A Matter of Time
2009-10 Quinnipiac Rookie of the Year Jeremy Langlois found the
back of the net for the first time this season as he scored in the
Bobcats' 5-2 loss to St. Cloud on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Freshman John Dunbar picked up his first career point on an assist
to Jeremy Langlois on Saturday, Oct. 30 against St. Cloud.
Must
Be Something In The Air
Zach Hansen, from White Bear Lake, Minn., opened the season
scoreless through Quinnipiac's first four games. The team's active
scoring leader among all defenseman, Hansen assisted on two goals
in the Bobcats' weekend split with SCSU.

Found My Hart(zell) In...Minnesota?
Sophomore goalie Eric Hartzell, also from White Bear Lake, Minn.,
got his first start of the year and first since Jan. 8, 2010
against Rensselaer, stopped 21 of 23 (91.3%) shots on goal by St.
Cloud to pick up his first win of the year. He is now 5-2-0
all-time.
Keep
Shooting Heichman
With a goal against St. Cloud State in the Bobcats' 4-2 win on
Friday, Oct. 29, Spencer Heichman now has now scored in three of
Quinnipiac's four wins this season.
Big
Crowd
On Saturday, Oct. 23, 3,891 packed the seats at the TD Bank Sports
Center for the Bobcats' 3-1 win against Holy Cross. The crowd was
the largest in the arena's history against a non-conference
opponent.
To
Kellen Back
In a 3-1 win against Holy Cross on Saturday, Kellen Jones scored
his first two career goals. Jones leads the team in goals (2),
assists (3) and points (5).
Really Impressive
Quinnipiac is 48-0-4 in its last 52 games in which it has led
heading into the third period. It's last loss when leading after
two periods came on March 17, 2007 against Clarkson in the ECAC
Hockey Championship.
Keeping Up With The Joneses
In a 3-2 win against Bentley, Connor and Kellen Jones combined for
four points between the two of them, with Connor scoring his first
career goal while also picking up an assist. Kellen had an assist
on Connor's and Russell Goodman's (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan)
power-play goals.
Plus/Minus Leaders
Through Quinnipiac's first six games, Loren Barron leads all Bobcat
skaters in plus/minus at +5. Yuri Bouharevich checks in at +4,
followed by Spencer Heichman and Zach Tolkinen at +3.
Youth Movement
Connor and Kellen Jones are two of 19 first-year NCAA Divsion I
men's ice hockey players to average a point per game through last
weekend's games.

Blockers
Through Quinnipiac's first six games, the Bobcats have blocked 114
of their opponents' shots, just under 20 per game.

And Counting
Head coach Rand Pecknold picked up his 175th career home win on
Saturday, Oct. 23 in a 3-1 victory against Holy Cross.

Quinnipiac is 40-23-7 (.621) in 70 games all-time at the TD Bank
Sports Center.
