Saturday Matinee
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team will host the
College of Holy Cross on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. at the TD Bank
Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac is 2-1-0 through its
first three games while Holy Cross is 2-2-0 with wins its last two
times out.
All-Time Against Holy Cross
Quinnipiac is 17-5-4 all-time against Holy Cross, dating back to
their first meeting during the 1997-98 season. Quinnipiac had won
two straight against Holy Cross before tying the Crusaders, 1-1, on
Dec. 12, 2010 in Worcester, Mass. The Bobcats have won and seven of
the last 11 meetings between the two teams overall.
Scouting The Crusaders
Holy Cross enters Saturday's game at 2-2-0 following back-to-back
Atlantic Hockey wins against American International and Army last
weekend. Everett Sheen leads Holy Cross with seven points (two
goals, five assists) through its first four games while Shayne
Stockton leads the Crusaders with three goals, while also chipping
in two assists for five points. Eight different Holy Cross players
have scored this year, accounting for 11 goals in four games. In
goal, Thomas Tysowsky has logged a majority of the minutes between
the pipes, posting a 2-1-0 record with a 3.90 goals-against average
and a .870 save percentage.
Holding Onto a Lead
With a 3-2 win against Bentley last Friday, Quinnipiac extended its
undefeated streak when leading after the second period to 52 games.
The Bobcats, 48-0-4 in that span, have not lost a game in which
they've led heading into the final period since March 17, 2007.
Keeping Up With The Joneses
In a 3-2 win against Bentley, Connor and Kellen Jones (Montrose,
British Columbia) combined for four points between the two of them,
with Connor scoring his first career goal while also picking up an
assist. Kellen had an assist on Connor's and Russell Goodman's
(Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) power-play goals.
Natural Leaders
Speaking of the Jones boys, Connor is tied for the team lead in
goals (one) and points (three), the latter with twin Kellen. Kellen
currently leads the Bobcats with three assists.
Plus/Minus
Through Quinnipiac's first three games, Loren Barron (Glendora,
Calif.) leads the Bobcats with a +2. He is trailed by Spencer
Heichman (Yorba Linda, Calif.), Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal, Quebec)
and Zach Tolkinen (Lino Lakes, Minn.) at +1.
We Win When They're Getting Points
In both Quinnipiac wins through its first three games, Scott
Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), Connor Jones and Bouharevich
have all registered a point.
Youth Movement
Connor and Kellen Jones are two of 29 first-year NCAA Divsion I
men's ice hockey players to average a point per game through last
weekend's games.
Staying Out Of Trouble
Through three games, Quinnipiac has logged the fourth fewest
penalty minutes per game (8.0) in NCAA Division I men's ice
hockey.
