Men's And Women's Ice Hockey Receiving Votes In National Polls
For the
first time in Quinnipiac history, both the men's and women's ice
hockey programs received votes in the USCHO.com Division I poll.
The women are a perfect 4-0-0 through their first four
regular-season contests and received eight votes in the latest
poll, while the men, 1-1-0 after a season-opening weekend split
with Ohio State, received two votes in the second poll of the
season. Quinnipiac is one of eight schools, along with Boston
College, Boston University, Cornell, Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth,
North Dakota and Ohio State, to feature mens' and women's team
ranked or receiving votes.
The
women opened the 2010 season with a pair of wins at Niagara that
resulted in a sweep of the ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Weekly honors as
Kate Wheeler, Player of the Week, Kelly Babstock, Rookie of the
Week, and Victoria Vigilanti, Goalie of the Week, were all honored.
Vigilanti picked up her second weekly award in as many weeks after
blanking Northeastern and Sacred Heart over the weekend, while
freshman Erica Uden Johannson was named Player and Rookie of the
Week. The Bobcats were the only team outside of the top ten in the
USCHO.com Division I poll to receive votes (8). The women received
the same number of votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine
Women's College Hockey poll.
The
men opened the season with a 2-1 victory against Ohio State on
Friday, Oct. 8, highlighted by junior captain Scott Zurevinski's
first goal of the year on assists from freshmen phenoms Connor and
Kellen Jones. Spencer Heichman scored the game winner while Dan
Clarke opened the season with his second career win against the
Buckeyes in as many games.
The men
return to action on Friday, Oct. 15 when they host Bentley College
at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Bobcats
fans who wish to purchase tickets can do so by visiting the
official website of Quinnipiac Athletics,
www.QuinnipiacBobcats.com, or by calling the TD Bank Sports Center
ticket office at 203-582-3905.
The women
head to Orono, Me. to take on the University of Maine at Alfond
Arena on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m.
They return home the following weekend to host Boston College on
Friday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center. Following
the conclusion of that game, Quinnipiac Athletics will host
Midnight Madness on the ajoining Lender Court at 8 p.m.
