Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey's Dan Clarke Named ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week
Quinnipiac
University sophomore Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) was named the
ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week after a record-breaking performance
against Union in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals this past weekend.
Clarke recorded 73 saves in the Bobcats 3-2 win against Union on
Friday, March 12 in the first game of the ECAC Hockey Quarters in
what would turn out to be the longest game (150:22) in NCAA
history.
Clarke's 73 saves passed Justin Eddy's 58 against St. Lawrence on
Nov. 3, 2000, and also passed Nick Boucher and Yann Danis' 66 saves
from 2002 and 2003, respectively. Clarke's previous high of 44
saves came against Ohio State on Oct. 9 earlier this year. In the
three game series, Clarke stopped 135 of 142 shots-on-goal for a
.951 save percentage while also posting a 1.57 goals-against
average.
The honor is Clarke's fourth this season, giving him the most of
all ECAC Hockey goalies. Princeton's Zane Kalemba, St. Lawrence's
Kain Tisi and Union's Keith Kinkade are the only other goalies in
ECAC Hockey this season to win the award three times. Clarke
finished the 2009-10 season with an overall record of 15-15-2 with
a 2.52 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. For his
career, Clarke is 20-21-3 with a 2.60 GAA and a .907 save
percentage. Clarke is the first Quinnipiac goalie to stop 91% of
opponents shots-on-goal and also post a GAA under 2.60 in a season
since Jamie Holden had a save percentage of .915 and a GAA of 2.55
during the 2004-05 season.
