SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Greg Holt (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) scored the game winning goal at the 10:32 mark of the fifth overtime as the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team defeated No. 16 Union in the first game of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y. The game was also the longest in NCAA Division I history at 150:22. Quinnipiac also improves to 20-16-2 overall for its 10th 20-win season out of the last 12 years.

Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) set an ECAC Hockey Tournament record with 73 saves. The previous record was held by Dartmouth's Nick Boucher and Brown's Yann Danis in 2003 and 2002, respectively. Clarke's 73 saves are also a Quinnipiac single-game record, passing Justin Eddy's 58 saves on Nov. 3, 2000. Clarke gave up two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game before blanking Union over the next 140-plus minutes. Quinnipiac bounced back from a two-goal deficit to score twice and force overtime.

Stephane Boileau put Union on the board just over seven minutes into the first period with his eighth goal of the season. After a flurry of shots on Quinnipiac's Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.), a Bobcat skated collected the puck and stepped out in front of the net. After he turned it over, Boileau stole the puck and put a shot on goal, beating Clarke for the playoff-series first goal. Less than three minutes later, on the power play at the 9:42 mark, it was Mario Valery-Trabucco with his 22nd goal of the year to give the Dutchmen a two-goal lead. Kelly Zajac sent the puck to Jason Walters, who put a shot on goal. Valery-Trabucco picked the puck out of the year and banged it past Clarke to put Union out in front, 2-0.

Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Sask.)cut the Union lead in half at the 13:01 mark of the first period. Eric Lampe (Madison, Wisc.) picked up the puck on the half boards in Union's defensive zone and skated up-ice. After crossing the blue line, he passed the puck across ice to Zurevinski who blasted a shot from the point that beat Union goalie Keith Kinkaid, stick-side.

Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) tied the game at the 1:12 mark of the second period. Zach Davies (Smithers, B.C.) took control of the puck in the Union zone and skated up-ice. He sent a pass to Greg Holt (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) who carried the puck deep along the boards before centering a pass to Langlois. Langlois' eighth goal of the year tied the game at 2-2.

Holt's goal came midway through the fifth overtime. Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) took control of the puck deep in the Bobcats defensive zone and took off down-ice. After crossing over center-ice, Wong dropped a pass to D'Arcy Oakes (Shanty Bay, Ont.), who sent the puck around the boards. Holt picked up the puck behind the net, to the right of Kinkaid in goal. Holt spun and fired a shot under Kinkaid's right arm for the game-winner.

The Bobcats now lead the best-of-three series 1-0 and can clinch the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal Series on Saturday, March 13 at 7 p.m. If Union wins tomorrow night, the two teams will meet on Sunday night at 7 p.m.
