Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Sask.) tied the game at the 7:27 mark with his 13th goal of the year. After Jean-Marc Beaudoin (St. Paul, Alb.) was denied on a shot from close range, the senior captain was able to knock the puck out to Eric Lampe (Madison, Wisc.) who sent it out to Zack Currie (Victoria, B.C.) at the point. Currie's shot was blocked but Zurevinski was able to swat the puck out of mid-air past RPI goalie Bryce Merriam to tie the game at 1-1. Lampe's assist was his team-leading 18th of the season, while Currie picks up his third.

The Engineers took a 2-1 lead when Chase Polacek scored to give RPI a one-goal lead. Polacek's goal came off a one-timer on a pass from Jerry D'Amigo. D'Amigo then dropped a pass to Polacek in the slot where he converted on his nation-leading 24th goal of the year.

D'Amigo scored at the 14:07 mark of the second period off a rebound from a shot from Polacek. Polacek and D'Amigo came down the ice, two-on-one with a Quinnipiac defenseman, before Polacek put a shot on goal. Clarke kicked the puck out to his left where D'Amigo picked it up and beat the sophomore goalie. Alex Angers-Goulet scored his fifth goal of the season less than a minute later, at the 15:03 mark, on assist from Jeff Foss and O'Grady as RPI took a 4-1 lead.

The Bobcats responded with a pair of power-play goals to pull within a goal. Beaudoin scored his eighth goal of the season on assists by Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) and Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.). Hansen dug the puck out the corner and passed it over to Wong. Wong then sent the puck to the slot where Beaudoin tipped the pass over the left shoulder of Merriam to trim RPI's lead to 4-2 heading into the second intermission.

Zurevinski scored his second goal of the game at the 4:52 mark of the third period to pull the Bobcats within a goal with more than 15 minutes to play in the game. The power-play goal started with Beaudoin handling the puck at the point. He threaded a pass through traffic to Wong on the opposite post. Once Merriam came across the crease to stop Wong, he dropped a pass off to Zurevinski for the one-timer.

RPI's John Kennedy added an empty-net goal for the Engineers with assists going to Polacek and D'Amigo.
