No. 7 Men's Ice Hockey Defeats American International, 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. - The No. 7 Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team defeated American International College, 5-2, in a non-conference match-up at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The win pushes Quinnipiac to 13-3-1 while American International falls to 2-14-1. Quinnipiac remains perfect at home this season at 8-0-0.

Quinnipiac posted its second consecutive home game with 10 or more Quinnipiac players collecting a point, as 11 different Bobcats either scored or assisted on a goal. Freshman D'Arcy Oakes (Shanty Bay, Ont.) scored his first career goal while Greg Holt (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), Jean-Marc Beaudoin (St. Paul, Alb.) and Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) each had a goal and an assist. Freshman Zach Davies (Smithers, B.C.) had two assists in the win.

Quinnipiac scored three times in the first period, with one goal coming on the power play. Mike Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) scored the game's first goal just under two minutes into the first period at the 1:40 mark. Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.) took control of the puck in the Bobcats' defensive zone and sent it up-ice to Holt .Holt broke out ahead of the pack, with one defender to beat. He stopped in the face-off circle and sent a pass across the slot to Atkinson, who faked a shot, skated across the goal face and deposited his seventh goal of the season.

Beaudoin scored his fifth goal of the year at the 13:28 mark to give Quinnipiac a two-goal lead. Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) handled the puck below the blue line in the Yellow Jackets' defensive zone before sending a pass to Eric Lampe (Madison, Wisc.). Lampe was cutting across the front of American International's goal and lost control of the puck. He was able to re-gain control behind the AIC net, where he spot Beaudoin waiting in the slot.

Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season, with assists to Beaudoin and freshman Zach Davies (Smithers, B.C.). Davies handled the puck in the neutral zone before connecting with Beaudoin. Beaudoin's pass found Wong's stick, whose one-timer beat AIC goalie Dan Ramirez to send Quinnipiac into the first intermission with a 3-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets responded just 24 seconds into the second period when Nielsson Arcibal scored his second goal of the season. Arcibal was set-up on the play by Steve McLeod, who picked up his sixth assist of the season. The goal was scored on AIC's first shot of the period after Quinnipiac freshman goalie Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) blanked the Yellow Jackets in the first period.

At the 7:48 mark, Holt scored in his second straight game on a backhand from the slot that beat Ramirez glove side to push the Bobcats' lead back to three goals at 4-1. Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal, Que.) held the puck along the halfboards by the Quinnipiac bench before dumping the puck into the corner. The puck caromed off the boards and ended up on the ice to the left of Ramirez where Holt took control and put the shot on goal. The goal was Holt's fifth goal of the year, and twice in as many games.

Oakes scored his first career goal on a pass by Davies, who converted on his second assist of the game. Davies picked up the puck in the corner to the left of the AIC goal and found Oakes streaking to the net. Oakes put a shot on goal that was kick-saved by Ramirez. Oakes then punched it between the junior goalies pads to give Quinnipiac a four-goal lead.

Tom Mele added a goal for American Internationl half-way through the third period.

The Bobcats are idle until Dec. 29 when they travel to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard University in an ECAC Hockey match-up set for a 7 p.m. start.
