Men's Ice Hockey Receives Votes In National Polls

HAMDEN, Conn. - Fresh off an ECAC Hockey weekend sweep of Clarkson and St. Lawrence, the Bobcats re-entered the national polls after dropping out last weekend. The Bobcats, who stand at 6-1-0 overall and in a tie for first place in the ECAC Hockey standings at 2-0-0, were recognized for the first time this season by in the weekly INCH Power Rankings. The Bobcats were previously included in the "Bubble-icious" section of the poll, but entered the top 20 portion for the first time at No. 19 this week.

In addition to the INCH Power Rankings, the College Sports Division I Men's Ice Hockey Poll had the Bobcats slotted in at No. 19 while the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine DI poll featured the Bobcats receiving votes.

The Bobcats knocked off Clarkson University, 4-2, on Friday night powered by a hat trick by senior assistant captain Mike Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.). Atkinson scored a pair of shorthanded goals, and added an empty-netter against the Golden Knights in the Bobcats ECAC Hockey opener at the TD Bank Sports Center. Atkinson also led a Quinnipiac penalty-kill unit that squashed 13 of 15 penalties in both games played this weekend. Quinnipiac's PK unit stopped 11 of 12 against St. Lawrence in a 5-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) had a solid weekend in goal, stopping 61 of 65 shots on goal between both games, while also posting a 2.00 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage as he improved to 3-1-0 on the season. Clarke stopped 34 shots in the Bobcats win against Clarkson, before responded the next day with 27 saves.

The Bobcats hit the ice this weekend when they host Harvard University on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:37 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The game is the first of five Quinnipiac men's ice hockey games that will be televised, including the first of three on the New England Sports Network (NESN). On Saturday, the Bobcats host Dartmouth College at 7 p.m.
