No. 18 Men's Ice Hockey Blanks Robert Morris, 5-0

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The nationally-ranked No. 18 Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team defeated Robert Morris University, 5-0, in a non-conference match-up at the RMU Island Sports Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Bobcats remain undefeated at 4-0-0 while Robert Morris drops to 1-4-0 on the season.The win also gives Quinnipiac a 34-0-3 record in their last 37 games when holding a lead heading into the third period.

"It was important to come out strong in this game," head coach Rand Pecknold said. "We played hungry from the start and competed. We skated 10 freshmen tonight that were absolutely flying."

Freshman Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) stopped 20 shots in net to hold Robert Morris scoreless for his first career shutout as he improves to 2-0-0 for his career. Mike Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) and Eric Lampe (Madison, Wisc.) both tallied a pair of assists while senior captain Jean-Marc Beaudoin (Edmonton, Alb.), Greg Holt (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) and Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) each scored one goal and assisted on another.

Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal, Que.) scored his first goal of the season to give Quinnipiac its first lead of the night. Freshman Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) carried the puck out of the neutral zone and dumped it into the Robert Morris defensive zone. Atkinson collected the puck in the corner, skated towards the back of the RMU goal, stopped and found Bouharevich waiting in the slot. Bouharevich's one-timer beat Colonials' goalie Brooks Ostergard to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

Halfway through the period, Zach Davies (Smithers, B.C.) came up with the puck in the Bobcats defensive zone and tipped it out to Zurevinski who fed Holt. Holt took advantage of a Robert Morris line change and skated on goal. His shot from just below the right face-off circle was blasted by Ostergard to give Quinnipiac a two-goal advantage.

Less than a minute later, it was senior captain Jean-Marc Beaudoin (Edmonton, Alb.) scoring his first goal of the year. Atkinson picked up his second assist of the game when he dropped took a pass in the neutral zone and found Lampe. Lampe then flipped a pass to Beaudoin who was streaking down the right side of the ice. The senior captain unleashed an almost-identical shot to Holts, giving Quinnipiac a 3-0 lead and knocking Ostergard from the game.

Early in the third period, Brett Dickinson (Furlong, Pa.) scored his first goal of the season on a rebound to give Quinnipiac a 4-0 lead. Beaudoin gave the puck to Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) who skated along the Robert Morris goal line and put a shot on goal. Robert Morris' Eric Levine stopped the shot, but on the ensuing scrum in front of the net, Dickinson was able to poke it past the Colonials' goalie. Zurevinski put in his third goal of the season to give Quinnipiac a 5-0 lead on a pass from Lampe.

The Bobcats and Colonials conclude their two-games series at the Clearview Arena at the RMU Island Sports Center in Moon Township, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:05 p.m.
