Men's Ice Hockey Ranked 20th In USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Division I Poll
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team was ranked 20th in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Men's Ice Hockey Division I Poll, remaining in the top 20 for the second straight week. The Bobcats also received 15 votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll. Quinnipiac remained "Bubble-licious" in the latest Inside College Hockey Power Rankings.
Quinnipiac skated to a 3-2 overtime win against Bentley University in their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Brandon Wong (Victoria, British Columbia) and Reese Rolheiser (Edmonton, Alberta) keyed the Bobcats' offensive attack, totaling a goal and assist in the win. Scott Zureviski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) gave the Bobcats' the win 29 seconds into overtime. Freshman Mathieu Cadieux (Oshawa, Ontario) picked up his first collegiate win in goal, stopping 25 of 28 shots between the pipes.
Rolheiser became the first of Quinnipiac's 13 freshmen to score a goal this season. Mike Glaicar (Kamloops, British Columbia) and Wong set Rolheiser up on the play, putting Quinnipiac on the board with a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game. After Bentley tied the game, Wong scored his second goal of the season with assists going to D'Arcy Oakes (Shanty Bay, Ontario) and Rolheiser. Zurevinski's game-winner came on helpers from Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Eric Lampe (Madison, Wisc.).
Quinnipiac is idle this week but will travel to Moon Township, Pa. to take Robert Morris University in a two-game series on Oct. 30-31.
