Men's Ice Hockey Ranked 18th In USCHO/CBS College Sports Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University's men's ice hockey team is ranked 18th nationally in the first College Sports Division I Men's Poll. The Bobcats make their first Top 20 appearance of 2009-10 in the weekly poll after receiving a vote in the preseason poll. Quinnipiac swept a season-opening series at No. 17 Ohio State this past weekend. Quinnipiac's two wins in Columbus earned 110 points in the poll released Oct. 13.

The Bobcats are one of four ECAC Hockey teams ranked in the top 20 this week. Cornell jumped up one spot to sixth with Yale and Princeton ranked eighth and 10th, respectively. Miami (OH) and Boston University are first and second to begin the season after playing for the 2009 National Championship last year.

Quinnipiac has received widespread attention for sweeping the Buckeyes on their home ice. Senior Eric Lampe (Madison, Wis.) was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, while sophomore netminder Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) was recognized by the conference as the Goalie of the Week. Lampe led Quinnipiac with three goals and an assist, including two goals in the first of the two-game series on Thursday, Oct. 8. Lampe then netted a goal and added an assist in Quinnipiac's 3-1 win in the second game the following night. His third goal of the weekend proved to be the game winner for the Bobcats as they completed the sweep. Clarke played the second game of the weekend, stopping a career-best 44 shots in goal, including 24 in the first period before holding the Buckeyes scoreless over the final 40 minutes of play.

In addition to a national ranking, it was today announced by College Hockey News that Quinnipiac was named its National Team of the Week. It marks the second time in the last two seasons that the Bobcats have received the honor.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 when it hosts Bentley University at 4 p.m., at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
