The
Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team will open the 2009-10
regular season with a trip to Columbus, Ohio to take on
nationally-ranked No. 17 Ohio State University in a two-game series
on Oct. 8-9. Both games are scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. puck-drop at
the Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The series will serve as
the first regular-season contests of the 2009-10 season for both
teams.

the Ohio State University athletic department, WQUN's Bill

In an
exhibition game played at the TD Bank Sports Center on Sunday, Oct.
4, the Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team defeated Prince
Edward Island, 4-3. Freshmen Mike Dalhuisen and Reese Rolheiser,
with two assists apiece and Jeremy Langlois, with one goal and one
assist, all collected two points in the win. Langlois' goal,
deflected in late in the second period, proved to be the
game-winner. Scott Zurevinski also scored for
Quinnipiac.

Ohio State University
The Ohio
State University Buckeyes were ranked 17th in the first
USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Division I Men's Ice Hockey Poll,
released on Monday, Oct. 5. Last season, Ohio State won an at-large
bid into the NCAA Tournament, losing in the first round to eventual
national champion, Boston University, at the northeast regional.
The Buckeyes return 20 players from last year's team. In goal,
Dustin Carlson started 33 of Ohio State's final 34 games, winning
21 and posting a .917 save percentage and a 2.50 goals-against
average. John Albert had a team-best 28 assists and 39 points last
season, earning him All-CCHA Preseason Honors. In addition to
Albert, the Buckeyes also feature five forwards who totaled 25
points or more last season: Hunter Bishop (14-17-31), Peter Boyd
(13-18-31), Zac Dalpe (13-12-25), Sergio Somma (11-14-25) and Ian
Boots (9-16-24).

Against Ohio State
Quinnipiac
and Ohio State have met just one time since the Bobcats joined the
Division I ranks. Ohio State won the match-up, 1-0, on Jan. 6, 2004
in Columbus, Ohio. Andrew Schembri scored an unassisted goal with
one second remaining for the win. 2009-10 Quinnipiac goalie coach
Justin Eddy was in net that night for the Bobcats. He turned away
the first 49 shots on goal before the 50th gave the Buckeyes the
win.

The Polls...
Quinnipiac
was one of nine ECAC Hockey teams featured in the first poll
announcement of the year. Cornell was ranked seventh, followed by
Yale in the eight spot and Princeton ranked 10th. Harvard received
35 votes but did not crack the top 20, followed by St. Lawrence
(23), Clarkson (10), Union (4) and Dartmouth (1).

Competition
In
addition to the nine ECAC Hockey teams ranked or receiving votes
that the Bobcats will face twice this season, Quinnipiac will also
host No. 15 St. Cloud State University for a two-game series on
Jan. 15-16 and Massachusetts, who received votes, on Nov.
28.
