David Marshall Announced As Walter Brown Award Semifinalist
Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey senior David Marshall (Buffalo, Minn.) has been named one of 16 semifinalists for the 57th Walter Brown Award, presented by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. The award is given to the best American-born Division I college hockey player in New England. The Gridiron Club will announce the finalists for the award in March, following league playoffs and before the start of the NCAA Tournament.
Marshall is one of four players from ECAC Hockey named as a semifinalist. Other ECAC Hockey players named as semifinalists include Yale's Sean Backman, Dartmouth's Adam Estoclet and Brown's Dan Rosen.
The senior wing was the first ECAC Hockey player this season to reach double figures in goals and assists and the quickest Division I hockey player to do so, reaching the mark in fewer than 19 games. Through 26 games this season, Marshall has scored 15 goals while assisting on 18 more. He currently ranks ninth nationally in points per game (1.27) and 16th in goals per game (0.58).
Before being held scoreless in his last outing, Marshall had scored a goal or assisted on in 18 consecutive games, a Quinnipiac men's ice hockey record. In a 4-2 win over No. 11 Air Force on Dec. 30 in the Championship Game of the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic, Marshall became the 28th player in Quinnipiac history to score 100 points and the 10th player in Quinnipiac history to score 60 goals. Marshall has scored 66 goals in his career, one shy of the Quinnipiac Division I record.
