Men's Ice Hockey Falls To Yale, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team lost to Yale University, 3-0, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 14-10-2 overall and 7-5-2 in ECAC Hockey play while Yale improves to 15-5-1 overall and 10-3-1 in league action.

Quinnipiac was shutout for the first time since Nov. 11 when they lost to Princeton, 2-0. Freshman Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) stopped 25 shots on the night in a game riddled with a combined 25 penalties and three game misconducts. Neither team converted on their power play attempts as the Bobcats were 0-for-8 while Yale was 0-for-9.

Yale's Patrick Brosnihan broke a scoreless tie with the Bulldogs' first goal of the game just under four minutes into the second period. Brosnihan was set up on the play by Chad Ziegler and Charles Brockett. The senior center received a pass at the point and let loose a one-time that beat Quinnipiac freshman goalie Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) stick side, just over his right shoulder. Brosnihan's goal was his third of the year while Ziegler and Brockett pick up their second and third assists, respectively. Clarke had turned away the first 14 shots he saw on goal up to that point.

Quinnipiac had a scoring opportunity just under eight minutes into the second period when Mike Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) and Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal, Que.) took off on a 2-on-1. Atkinson handled the puck in the Bulldogs' zone before he fakes a pass to Bouharevich and took a shot on Yale's Alec Richards. The shot beat Richards before glancing over the goal post. Atkinson got his own rebound behind the Yale goal, but was denied on the wrap-around as well.

Yale took a 2-0 lead with less than seven minutes to play in the period when Mark Arcobello took a rebound after a blocked shot just inside the blue line in the Bobcats' defensive zone. Tom Dignard had his shot blocked by a sprawling Andrew Meyer (St. Louis, Mo.) before Arcobello collected the loose puck and scored on a blast past Clarke to the lower left corner of the net. Sean Backman was also credited with an assist on the play.

Yale's third goal came at the 8:42 mark when Broc Little broke up an attempted clear by the Quinnipiac defense, deep in their zone. Little handled the puck in the slot, slid past Clarke and slipped a backhand shot past the freshman goalie to give the Bulldogs a three-goal lead, 3-0. The goal was Little's 11th of the season.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Feb. 6 when they take on Cornell University in an ECAC Hockey match-up at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, N.Y. The Bobcats will then head to Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday, Feb. 7 to take on Colgate University at Starr Rink. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. puck-drop.
