Ike Azotam and Umar Shannon to Compete in Gotham Hoops Invitational

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) and Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J.) will compete in the Gotham Hoops Invitational, to be held Sunday, April 13, at Farmingdale (N.Y.) State College. The inaugural event will serve as a showcase for the top men's college basketball seniors in the Tri-State area.

The Invitational will be played before NBA and international coaches and scouts, providing an opportunity for these seniors to pursue professional basketball careers. The evening double-header will be open to the public.

Azotam played in all 32 games this past season, averaging 16.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He scored in double-figures 28 times this year, recording 20 points on seven different occasions. Azotam had several stellar performances throughout the campaign, but put forth his best effort at Niagara on Feb. 22. Azotam netted a season-high 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the double-double. Azotam snatched 18 double-doubles this season, which had him ranked third in the nation for the category.

Shannon finished up his career at Quinnipiac, and played a large role in the Bobcats' 20-win season. Shannon averaged 14.3 points, 2.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game. Lethal from long-range, Shannon led the team making 2.3 three-pointers per game – a figure that had him ranked top-five in the league. He was also Quinnipiac's best free-throw shooter, connecting on 82.3 percent of his attempts. Shannon suffered a season-ending injury in the second-to-last regular season game against Siena but will be ready to go for the invitational.

Rosters will be finalized on Friday, April 4. Represented conferences include the American, Atlantic 10, Big East, Colonial, Metro Atlantic and Northeast. For more information, visit the official website at GothamHoopsInvitational.com.

The Bobcats concluded the 2013-14 season in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). It was the team's fourth national postseason tournament bid in the last five years. Quinnipiac also eclipsed the 20-win plateau for the third time since 2009.
