Azotam, Drame and Hearst Secure Spots On MAAC All-Conference Teams

EDISON, N.J. – Three student-athletes of the Quinnipiac University men's basketball team – Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.), Ousmane Drame (Boston, Mass.) and Zaid Hearst (Bethesda, Md.) – have been named All-Conference the league announced on Monday, March 3, 2014. Azotam was selected to the First Team, Drame was named to the second team, and Hearst was selected to the Third Team.

"I would like to send along my congratulations to Ike  Azotam, Ousmane Drame, and Zaid Hearst on their well-earned All-MAAC honors," said head coach Tom Moore. "These three student-athletes had terrific seasons in leading us to a 14-6 record and a 3rd seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament. Each of them has worked very hard on their games, come from great families, and have been great representatives of our program."

Azotam was the seventh player under the direction of Moore to earn a first team all-conference selection. With the three selections, Quinnipiac has a total of 14 players named to the all-conference teams in the past seven seasons. That includes one Player of the Year, Justin Rutty, in 2010.

Azotam averaged 16.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.0 block per game in his final season of competition. Quinnipiac's Division I leader in career double-doubles, collected the 43rd of his career with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Siena (2/27). Azotam ranks third in the country in offensive rebounds per game (4.3), is tied for second in double-doubles (17.0), and ranks eighth in rebounds per game (10.7). Azotam (1,561) was the third player in Quinnipiac history, and the second during the Division I era, to record 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Furthermore, Azotam serves as the only player in QU history to have 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds and 95 blocks. Azotam surpassed Justin Rutty for 13th on the all-time scoring list, and for third place on the Division I scoring list at Quinnipiac.

Ousmane Drame scored a spot on the MAAC's Second Team after a breakout season in 2013-14. He averaged career bests in points (13.8), rebounds (10.3) and blocks (2.4) – while finishing second in the MAAC in rebounds and blocked shots per game. Drame has 22 career double-doubles with 13 of them coming this season, which also has him ranked second behind Azotam. Drame upped his career total to 127 blocks which has him ranked first in Quinnipiac Division I history, and third all-time. His season was highlighted on two separate occasions – a career high of 26 points at Niagara (2/22) and career highs of 21 rebounds and seven blocks against Monmouth (1/16).

Zaid Hearst broke out as one of the MAAC's top scorers this season. He averaged 15.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor, 82.3 percent from the free-throw line and 40.8 percent from long range. Hearst scored 20 points in 11 games this season with a career high of 33 against Canisius on Jan. 30. He also added seven double-doubles which has him ranked fourth in the MAAC, and first among guards. Hearst really hit his stride through February where he scored 20 points in six games out of an eight-game stretch. He was also among the MAAC leaders in points and rebounds per game, and field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and free-throw percentage.

Quinnipiac's quest for a MAAC Title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament begins on Saturday, March 8 in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Championships. The Bobcats will take on the winner of No. 6 Marist and No. 11 Niagara which will be played on Thursday night. The MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. will serve as the host site throughout the weekend.
