HAMDEN, Conn. – Zaid Hearst's (Bethesda, Md.) play last week didn't go unnoticed as the junior guard was named the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week, announced on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014. Hearst was terrific on the hardwood, leading the team in scoring in both MAAC games.
On Thursday night against Canisius, Hearst carried the Bobcats on his back for most of the night, finishing with 33 points on 11-of-18 shooting. He was 9-of-11 from the free-throw line and added six rebounds and four assists to his line. Hearst scored the most points by a QU player since James Johnson netted 38 against Robert Morris on Jan. 27, 2011, and the most points in a game since Ike Azotam dropped 32 against Niagara on Dec. 22, 2011.
Over the weekend at Siena, Hearst scored 25 points on 6-of-12 shooting and had eight rebounds in another stellar performance. He was 13-of-15 from the free-throw line and dished out an assist in the come-from-behind win. Hearst averaged 29.0 points, 7.0 rebound, and 2.5 assists per game during the week.
