SOMERSET, N.J. - Freshman forward Ousmane Drame (Boston, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University men's basketball team has been named the Choice Hotels/NEC Rookie of the Week, announced on Monday, January 2, 2012 by the league office. Drame put together three solid performances over the last two weeks that lifted the Bobcats to three straight wins and earned the 6-foot-9 forward the first rookie of the week award of 2012.
Posting nearly a double-double per game during the stretch, he averaged 9.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in wins over Niagara (85-81), Colgate (80-70) and Boston University (59-53), boosting Quinnipiac's record to 8-5. He earned his first double-double in a QU uniform against Niagara with 13 points and 10 boards. In that game, he knocked down a key bucket with 1:27 to play, then calmly sank a pair of free throws with four seconds on the clock to ice the victory. After a six-point, seven-rebound performance at Colgate, Drame recorded his second career double-double by scoring 10 points and collecting 14 rebounds in a thrilling comeback win over the Terriers.
Additionally, he added six blocks in the year-closing win over Boston University, a new program record within the Division I era. He is averaging 5.7 points and ranks tenth in the NEC with 6.6 rebounds per outing.
The Bobcats are back in action on Thursday, January 5 at St. Francis (N.Y.). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
