HAMDEN, Conn. – Two members of the Quinnipiac University men's basketball program, senior Kevin Tarca (Skillman, N.J.) and junior Jamee Jackson (Newark, N.J.), traveled to the Shepherd Glen Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon to work with students in Hamden, Conn.
"I would like to commend the job that two of our players, Kevin Tarca and Jamee Jackson, did recently as they visited the Shepherd Glen Elementary School in Hamden," said Head Coach Tom Moore. "Kevin and Jamee spoke to the students about the importance of education and the value of doing well in school. I'd like to thank Principal Joseph DiBacco for the opportunity to allow our student-athletes to speak to his students."
The day consisted of a question and answer portion, where the students asked the players about the education and basketball. After that, everyone joined together as Tarca and Jackson read to the children. The group featured kids in first, second and third grade.
"The kids were great," said Jackson, now in his third season at QU. "Everyone was very attentive and well-behaved throughout the entire day. We really enjoyed spending time with them and would love to continue to do so in the future."
When the Bobcats take on Bryant on January 7, 2012, many students, faculty members and families from Shepherd Glen will be in attendance to cheer on the team. Close to 400 people from the local community are expected to be at the TD Bank Sports Center.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Tuesday, November 22, with a non-conference showdown against American University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
