Felicia Barron and James Johnson Named Quinnipiac Athletes of the Month for January

HAMDEN, Conn. - Redshirt sophomore women's basketball guard Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) and junior men's basketball guard James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) have been named the Quinnipiac University Athletes of the Month for January. Barron led the Bobcats with 14.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, while Johnson contributed 16.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

Barron compiled 21 three pointers, shooting 39.6 percent (21-53) from three-point range. She also shot 37.1 percent (39-105) from the floor and 84.8 percent (28-33) from the free-throw line. Barron picked up a team-high 43 assists and 24 steals in Quinnipiac's nine games in January.

Barron was named Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 25, after leading the Bobcats to double-digit wins against Mount St. Mary's and Wagner. She scored a career-high 25 points and finished 6-of-7 three-point attempts against Mount St. Mary's on Jan. 22, while adding 22 points at Wagner.

Johnson scored his 1,000th career point, Jan. 22 at Mount St. Mary's, becoming the 35th player in Quinnipiac history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. He followed the accomplishment with a 38-point eruption against Robert Morris, helping to avenge last season's NEC Championship loss to the Colonials in a 69-61 victory, Jan. 27.

Johnson was named Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week on Jan. 31 after averaging 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, while shooting 10-of-19 (.526) from three-point range, 55.2 percent from the floor (16-29), 77.8 percent from the free-throw line in wins against Robert Morris and Saint Francis (Pa.).
