Justin Rutty Named Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University men's basketball junior Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) has been named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week after compiling his Quinnipiac Division I record 31st career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds against Yale in the Connecticut 6 Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena. Rutty's 31 double-doubles lead all active NEC players. The NEC award is the fourth of Rutty's career.

Rutty connected on 9-of-14 field-goal attempts against Hartford, the ninth make being the 500th made field goal of his career. Rutty is one of just three Quinnipiac players to make 500 field goals at the Division I level, joining Bill Romano '02 (599) and Rob Monroe '05 (523). He also added his 800th career rebound. Already the Quinnipiac Division I leader, Rutty ranks eighth all-time at Quinnipiac, just one behind Frank Lisnow '67 (809) for seventh and seven behind Lester Ayala '92 (815) for sixth. With 19 points against Yale, Rutty also jumped five spots on the Quinnipiac all-time scoring list to 18th with 1,177.

The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, when they play host to the University of Hartford in their home opener. Prior to the game, the Bobcats will unveil the 2009-10 Northeast Conference Regular Season Championship banner. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center.
