Tom Moore Featured In FoxSports.com, NCAA Report On APR Improvement
HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University Men's Basketball Head Coach Tom Moore and the Bobcats men's basketball team were featured in a report filed today by FoxSports.com's Jason Belzer, highlighting the coaches in NCAA Division I who have had led the greatest academic turnarounds over the past three years. Moore's teams improved by 219 Academic Progress Rate points since the 2006-07 academic year, the greatest improvement among NCAA Division I men's basketball programs.
"I speak for everyone associated with our men's basketball program when I say how proud we all are to be ranked first in APR improvement in Fox Sports' recent survey of all Division I institutions," said Moore. "We are proud of the academic culture which we have fostered here in our first three years. As much pride as we take from winning the 2009-10 Northeast Conference Championship, we take just as much pride in our numerous academic accomplishments. Alyssa Budkofsky, our men's basketball academic advisor, has worked tirelessly on understanding and improving our APR. It is her dedication and work ethic, coupled with the commitment and sacrifices of our players, which are the driving force behind our significant improvement."
Belzer subtracted each school's APR in the 2006-07 academic year from the school's 2008-09 APR, the latest publically available statistic, in reaching his findings. In order to qualify for his list, individuals needed to coach their team during the 2007-08 academic year and still lead their team today.
"This No. 1 ranking of Tom Moore and his staff truly represents how pleased and impressed we are with the incredible progress of our men's basketball program on the floor, in the classroom and in our community," said Quinnipiac Director of Athletics & Recreation Jack McDonald. "Alyssa Budkofsky, our Assistant Athletic Director for Men's Basketball Academic Support, also deserves considerable credit for this very good improvement in the academic progress of our men's basketball program. We are very grateful to all our coaches and staff for being always Dedicated and Concerned to the Total Development of our Student-Athletes."
