HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University junior men's basketball forward Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) and senior wing James Feldeine (New York, N.Y.) have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 18 Team. With their honors, Feldeine and Rutty, along with the other 238 honorees from 24 districts, are eligible for the State Farm Division I All-America teams, to be announced on Saturday, April 3 during the NABC Convention and the Final Four.
The awards follow Rutty and Feldeine's selections to the All-NEC First Team, in addition to Rutty being picked as the league's player of the year by the NEC's coaches. Head Coach Tom Moore was also named the Jim Phelan NEC Coach of the Year on March 2.
Rutty has averaged 15.1 points (8th-NEC) and a league-best 11.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.4 percent from the floor (3rd-NEC) in his junior season. He's compiled a league-best 17 double-doubles, while grabbing 4.9 offensive rebounds per game, second-most in the nation. Rutty scored his 1,000th point in just his junior season, and currently stands 15th all-time on the NEC's career rebound list with 791 boards. Rutty's effort on the boards has led the Bobcats to the nation's best rebounding margin (+9.2).
Feldeine has been the Bobcats' leading scorer for the second consecutive season at 17.1 points per game, good for fourth in the league. He leads the NEC in 20-point performances with 13, while also finishing seventh in free-throw percentage (.797), 11th in steals (1.44 spg.), 13th in the league in rebounding (6.0 rpg.) and 13th in field-goal percentage (.430). With 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, Feb. 25 against Monmouth, Feldeine became one of just nine players in NCAA Division I to compile a triple-double this season.
