QU Madness Rally - Wed, 12:30pm - Cafeteria - Prizes, Tickets, Video
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University Department of Athletics and Recreation will host "QU Madness" week to celebrate the postseason accomplishments of all four Quinnipiac winter sports teams. Headlining Quinnipiac's postseason is the men's basketball team that captured the 2010 Northeast Conference Regular-Season Championship on Saturday, Feb. 27 to secure the top spot in the upcoming NEC tournament. On Wednesday, March 3, the Quinnipiac Student Center will host a Pep Rally at 12:30 p.m. in the cafeteria to celebrate the achievements of all four Quinnipiac winter sports teams.
The "Voice of the Bobcats" Bill Schweizer as well as Senior Associate Athletic Director Bill Mecca will serve as the events' emcees. Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald will also appear as well as men's basketball head coach Tom Moore, men's ice hockey coach Rand Pecknold, women's basketball coach Tricia Fabbri and women's ice hockey coach Rick Seeley. In addition, all four teams will be on hand for the celebration.
The men's ice hockey team will host an ECAC Hockey Tournament First-Round Series for the fourth consecutive season while the women's basketball team clinched the eighth and final spot in the NEC Tournament on the final day of the regular season. The women's ice hockey team hosted an ECAC Hockey Tournament Quarterfinal series this past weekend, losing to Rensselaer in the third game of the best-of-three series. The final game lasted 144:32 minutes spanning five overtime periods, the second longest game in NCAA Division I college hockey history.
On Thursday, March 4, the men's basketball team will host Monmouth for a Northeast Conference Quarterfinal match-up at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn at 7 p.m. Should the Bobcats win that game, they will then host a semifinal game on Sunday, March. 7 at 2 p.m. with the NEC Tournament Championship slated for Wednesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. With the top seed, Quinnipiac has the home-court advantage throughout the NEC Tournament.
Men's ice hockey defeated Brown on Friday, Feb. 26 and #5 Yale on Saturday, Feb. 27 to secure the seventh seed for the ECAC Hockey Championship. Quinnipiac will host 10th seed, Dartmouth, in a best-of-three games series scheduled to start Friday, March 5. Each game of the series will start at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center.
The women's basketball team will travel to Loretto, Pa. for the NEC Women's Basketball Tournament hosted by Saint Francis (Pa.) University. The Bobcats won their final two regular-season games to clinch the final spot in the NEC Tournament. They will face second-seed Long Island on Saturday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m. at Saint Francis' DeGol Arena.
For all men's basketball games, tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for Quinnipiac students, children ages 2-12 and senior citizens over the age of 65. For men's ice hockey, tickets are $15 for premium seats, located in sections 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 112, 113, 114 and 115, $13 for all other seats and $5 for Quinnipiac students, children ages 2-12 and senior citizens over the age of 65.
