HAMDEN, Conn. Quinnipiac University sophomore men's basketball forward Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) has been named to the All-Northeast Conference Tournament Team, the league office today announced. Rutty averaged 14.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in the Bobcats' two tournament games.
Rutty scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the Bobcats' 86-78 overtime victory in the NEC Quarterfinals at No. 4 Long Island. He followed with 10 points and 14 rebounds at top-seeded and eventual tournament champion Robert Morris in the semifinals. The pair of double-doubles gave Rutty 13 for the season.
The youngest player selected, Rutty joined tournament MVP Jeremy Chappell (senior) and Rob Robinson (junior) of Robert Morris, Kelly Beidler (junior) of Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart's Joey Henley (graduate student) on the all-tournament team.
For the season, the All-NEC First Team selection averaged 14.8 points (10th-NEC), 9.8 rebounds (1st-NEC, 21st-NCAA), 4.57 offensive rebounds (1st-NEC, 2nd-NCAA), 5.27 defensive rebounds (4th-NEC) and 1.0 block (9th-NEC), while shooting 60.4 percent from the floor (2nd-NEC, 12th-NEC).
