PROVIDENCE, R.I. James Feldeine (New York, N.Y.) scored a career-high 31 points to lead all scorers, but the Quinnipiac men's basketball team was defeated by Brown, 89-73, Monday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) added 22 points for the Bobcats, who fall to 6-5 with the loss. Brown shot 64.2 percent (34-53) for the game, including 82.4 percent (14-17) from three-point range.
James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) added 12 points and seven assists for the Bobcats. Feldeine had a team-high four steals. Adrian Williams had a team-high 29 points on 9-for-11 shooting, including 7-for-8 from long range. Matt Mullery had 22 points, while Peter Sullivan added 21. Chris Skrelja led the Bears with 11 rebounds, eight assists and four steals to go along with four points.
The Bears created separation in the first half with a 13-0 run to take a 24-9 lead just under nine minutes into the game. The lead would increase to as many as 19 points in the first half and the Bears took an 18-point lead into the locker room.
Brown shot 87.5 percent (7-8) from three-point range and 61.3 percent (19-31) from the floor in the initial stanza. Williams led all first-half scorers with 16 points, including 4-for-5 shooting from long range. Mullery added 15 points for the Bears, while Skrelja had nine first-half rebounds. Feldeine and Rutty had 10 points apiece for the Bobcats at the half.
Brown immediately extended to a 24-point lead with a pair of three-pointers to open the second half. Quinnipiac would battle back to within nine points on Feldeine's three with 3:12 remaining in regulation, but would get no closer.
For the game, Quinnipiac outrebounded Brown, 33-23. The Bobcats shot 44.6 percent (29-65) from the floor, 38.9 percent (7-18) from three-point range and 61.5 percent (8-13) from the free-throw line.
The Bobcats return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y., to take on Cornell. Opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Newman Arena.
