Acrobatics and Tumbling Finish Third in Tri-Meet Against Oregon and Azusa Pacific
EUGENE, Ore.- The Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling team finished 10.4 points behind first-place Oregon on Monday evening at the Matthew Knight Arena in front of a crowd of 1,242. The Bobcats' total of 270.18 was also edged by Azusa Pacific's 278.36, as the Cougars finished in second and the Bobcats in third. The Ducks finished with a winning score of 280.57, to earn its second and third win of the season, improving to 3-0 on the year. The Cougars improve to 2-1 while the Bobcats fall to 2-2.
"I am so proud and pleased with the teams handling of adversity," said head coach Maryann Powers. "They did their best with all the challenges they faced."
Unable to capture any events on the evening, Quinnipiac fell behind early. The Bobcats opened the compulsory event trailing .95 points behind the Ducks. Coming into the Acro event, senior Trisha Pierce (Middletown, Pa.), junior Stephanie Crosson (Ridgefield Park, N.J.), sophomore Brooke Artz (Whitman, Mass.) and freshman Allee Tallman (Farmington, N.Y.) were able to take the 6-Element acro heat posting the high score of 9.3 to outscore both Azusa Pacific and Oregon. Despite the Bobcats effort, this would be the only heat that Quinnipiac would be able to capture.
Out of halftime, the Bobcats would look to make their mark as they began the second half. Despite their effort, the Bobcats placed third in the next three consecutive events Toss (27.0), Tumbling (55.81) and Team (94.88) events. Quinnipiac would mark a season high of 9.6 in the single toss heat as Pierce, Crosson, Artz, sophomore Demitra Germanakos (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Tallman led the way. The Bobcats would also match their season best with a 9.4 in the trio pass tumbling heat.
With the win, Oregon continues a 24 unbeaten streak in the NCATA and improves to 6-0 against Quinnipiac. Azusa Pacific also improved to 5-3 against the Bocats.
The Bobcats continue their trip along the west coast as they become the first Quinnipiac team to meet Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. Quinnipiac takes on the Sea Warriors on Wednesday, March 12, at 6:30 pm (HST). This is the second meet for the Sharks who entered their inaugural season this year.
