Acrobatics and Tumbling Announce 2014 Spring Schedule

Hamden, Conn. - Quinnipiac Acrobatics and Tumbling head coach Mary Ann Powers announced her squad's 2014 schedule Friday, January 10, marking its fourth year competing in the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA). The Bobcats will compete in five regular season events, including two home stints at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, before competing in the NCATA National Championships in April.

"This is a very exciting upcoming season for not only Quinnipiac Acrobatics and Tumbling but for the National Collegiate Acrobatic and Tumbling Association (NCATA)," said head coach Mary Ann Powers.  "The number of universities who have committed their resources to supporting this as a varsity sport on their campuses has doubled in size from last year. This is a very focused, unselfish and self-motivated team. We had a strong foundation last year and with the addition of several key freshman, I think we will continue to build another solid season."

The 2014 season kicks off Saturday, Feb. 1, as the Bobcats open the season against Gannon University in Hamden, Conn. Two weeks later, the Bobcats will host the Baylor Bears on February 23. Quinnipiac then continues their 2014 season on the road when they compete in their second tri-meet against the 2013 NCATA Champions the Oregon Ducks and Azusa Pacific in Eugene, Ore. on March 10. The Bobcats will hop a flight from Oregon to the island of Hawaii to compete against Hawaii Pacific for the first time in program history on March 12.  April 5, will wrap up Quinnipiac's regular season on the road when they face Alderson Broaddus and Fairmont State in Philippi, W. Va.  The 2014 NCATA National Championships are scheduled to take place April 24-27, in Azusa, Calif.

Last season, Quinnipiac completed a successful season with a 5-3 overall record and advanced to the NCATA Championship round for the first time in program history. The team also captured two individual national titles; in the twisting pyramid, posting a score of 9.85 and a 9.90 in the release pyramid.

Junior Stephanie Palange (West Springfield, Mass.) was named to the All-American team, while sophomore Montara Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) was named the 2013 NCATA Rookie of the Year.
