Acrobatics & Tumbling Hosts Maryland On Saturday At 11 AM

The
nationally-ranked No. 5 Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling team
hosts its final National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling
Association meet of the season against No. 1 Maryland on Saturday,
Mar. 26 at 11 a.m. at the TD Banks Sports Center. Prior to the
meet, Quinnipiac will honor its four seniors with a rose
ceremony.
About Maryland
Maryland is coming
off its seventh straight victory of the season after defeating No.
2 Oregon, 287.903 - 286.380, on Thursday, Mar. 24. Despite trailing
the entire evening, the Terrapins outscored the Ducks in the final
team routine event (107.420 - 105.700) to pull out the
come-from-behind victory and remain undefeated. Maryland's team
routine and overall score were both season-highs, as the Terrapins
become the last remaining undefeated team in the
country.

Time Out
In Quinnipiac's
last meet on Monday, Mar. 21, the Bobcats scored its highest
overall total of the season in a 289.204 - 281.669 loss to No. 2
Oregon. Despite the loss, Quinnipiac recorded season-highs in five
of six events, and eclipsed its season-high overall meet total by
an enormous 16.461 points. In the final event before halftime,
Quinnipiac won the pyramid event, scoring a 29.700 compared to
Oregon's 29.450. The Bobcats were down by just over a point (98.380
- 97.045) heading into the locker rooms at halftime, and remained
right on the tails of the Ducks through the remainder of the meet.
Oregon opened up its lead in the tumbling (55.08 - 51.71) and team
routine (106.47 - 103.81) portion of the meet to pull away for the
victory.
Lasto Leads The
Nation
Sophomore Christina
Lasto (Oxford, Conn.) shattered the season-high record (which
Oregon held) on Monday, Mar. 21 in the open basket heat of the
basket toss event. Lasto's near perfect score of 9.95 (out of a
possible 10.0) broke the previous record of 9.75 by a substantial
margin.
About Acrobatics
& Tumbling
The acrobatics
& tumbling format revolves around a two-to-four team
competitive meet. Within one meet are six events: Compulsories,
Stunts, Pyramids, Baskets, Tumbling, and Team Routine . Everything
is competed in a head to head format, alternating from one team to
the next. Scores will be displayed in real-time in order to inform
both the teams and spectators as to which side is ahead. All
skills have a pre-determined difficulty value and are scored solely
on execution during the meet.
National Championship
Weekend
Following
Saturday's matchup, Quinnipiac returns to action for the final time
this season when it heads off to Eugene, Ore. for the NCATA
National Championships beginning on Thursday, Apr. 7 and lasting
until Saturday, Apr. 9.
