COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling team earned its first National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association victory of the season in come from behind fashion, defeating preseason coaches' poll No. 3 Fairmont State on Sunday afternoon at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md. The Bobcats ended their opening weekend on a high note, as they upset the Falcons with an overall score of 264.304 - 263.379.

Entering the final event of the afternoon down 172.977 - 168.130, Quinnipiac came together to post a 96.174 (compared to Fairmont State's 90.402) and come away with a dramatic .925 point victory in the overall team totals. This marked the second time this weekend that Quinnipiac posted the highest team routine score.

"The team is really excited coming off a great weekend," said Head Coach Mary Ann Powers. "Going toe-to-toe with the best team in the country (Maryland) and then having our team routine total take us over the top today was huge for us. We will continue to work off that and I expect us to have more difficulty on our opening value of our team routine to make our possible scoring chances even better."

Quinnipiac began the meet with a winning score of 39.58 - 39.15 in the compulsories, but was then defeated 25.51 - 26.082 in the following stunt event.

Fairmont State followed with a high score of 28.225 in the pyramid event, compared to Quinnipiac's 27.20. The Bobcats responded well, earning the highest score in the following event, the basket toss, 26.4 - 26.17.

Quinnipiac was defeated by a slightly larger margin in the tumbling portion of the afternoon, falling 49.44 - 53.35. The Bobcats bounced back, overwhelming the Falcons in the final team routine event, to cap off an exciting opening weekend of the 2010-11 season.

"The team needs to step it up with tumbling if we want to continue to have success this season," coach Powers commented. "Overall though, I am very proud of what this team was able to accomplish this weekend. I think we made some noise across the country and I look forward to us improving for our next meet."
