Competitve Cheer Edged by Maryland, 248.16-232.36
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University competitive cheer team lost to Maryland, 248.16-232-36, in at the 6th Annual Quinnipiac All-Star & Competitive Cheer Challenge at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats competed against the Terrapins under the newly designed scoring format constructed by the National Competitive Stunts and Tumbling Association, founded earlier this year.
Quinnipiac, as well as the other five colleges and various youth cheer programs participating in the event, helped raise over $5,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Earlier in the day, the Bobcats were featured on WTNH-8's Good Morning Connecticut with Mark Robbins.
In the Partner Stunt event, Maryland edged Quinnipiac in the first heat, 9.15-9.05, before also winning the second heat, 9.36-8.60. Maryland won the event, 37.00-35.29. Maryland also won the Pyramid Event, 36.31-34.26 and the Basket Toss, 37.69-33.69. The Terrapins took the Tumbling event, 38.82-35.80, before taking the Team Routine, 98.35-93.32.
Over 25 teams across 12 age groups participated in the event. Besides Quinnipiac and Maryland, Connecticut, Babson and Western Connecticut State also competed in the event.
The Bobcats return to action next week when they travel to East Haven, Conn. for the All-New England Open on Saturday, March 6.
