HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University competitive cheer team will host a two-day event this weekend, The Quinnipiac All-Star & Competitive Cheer Challenge. Saturday will feature the high school segment of the competition at Burt Kahn Court on Quinnipiac's main campus, while Sunday will feature the all-star and collegiate segments at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats will be competing against fellow National Competitive Stunts and Tumbling Association opponent, Maryland, on Sunday.
Quinnipiac has selected the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut as our "cheer-it-able" endeavor of choice for the event, which will also serve as a fundraiser for the charitable organization. Tables will be set up throughout the main gymnasium for participants and spectators to vote on their favorite competitor of the day. The winning team in each session will receive free registration to next year's Challenge and will also participate in a dance-off with Boomer the Bobcat. A link to a PDF of the Make-A-Wish pledge sheet has been included at the top of the page should anyone want to collect money and raise awareness for the charity.
The Bobcats will be competing against Maryland on the day, while other collegiate programs Babson, Connecticut and Western Connecticut State will also be performing. The teams will be judged in four different categories: Building Skills, Gymnastic Skills, Choreography and Overall Impression. Sunday's event will also serve as Senior Day for Quinnipiac's two graduating seniors, Alicia Chouinard (Hudson, N.H.) and Stephanie Colella (Hamden, Conn.).
Saturday's competition will run from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. while Sunday's events will start at 11 a.m. and run to 5 p.m.
