Competitive Cheer Takes Part In Spirit Unlimited Championship Saturday, Dec. 5

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University competitive cheer squad will take part in the first official competition, Spirit Unlimited, of its 2009-10 inaugural season Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. The Bobcats will be competing against the Babson and Stony Brook all-female cheer teams. The event is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.

Quinnipiac will officially take the floor at 1:20 p.m., picking up the final collegiate performance of the day. Babson will kick off the event with their performance at 1:00 p.m., with Stony Brook taking the floor second at 1:10 p.m.

The Bobcats will be performing their traditional 2 ½ minute routine as opposed to their new meet format routine that was developed for the six schools in the country that feature competitive cheer as an emerging sport. The 2 ½ minute routine incorporates all elements of the sport including standing tumbling, running tumbling, partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, jumps and dance.

The meet will be judged based on all the above elements within the routine, with a special section of the judging to focus on the difficulty and execution of the teams' pyramids and tosses. The main judging section will be devoted to the overall routine with special focus on jumps, motions and dance, formations and transitions, showmanship and overall impression. The highest overall score a team can earn is a 100.
