Quinnipiac Field Hockey Alumni Win $10,000 At First-Ever 4Goals Cup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team fielded an alumni squad consisting of 13 Bobcat graduates that won $10,000 at the first-ever 4Goals Cup on July 27-28, 2013 at Brown University in Providence, R.I. The team was organized by former Bobcats' stand-out Bonnie Shea '10.

"Competing with Quinnipiac University in the 4 goals cup was truly a wonderful experience," Jill DiSanti '05 said. "No matter how much time has passed it is obvious that Quinnipiac Field Hockey still holds a special place in all of our hearts.  Each player of the program was handpicked at some point and being able to come together as one family was amazing. Playing with so many different generations makes it clear how each person, who has come through the program, has had an impact on making it what it is today. Together as one, Quinnipiac Field Hockey truly is something special."

The team consisting of Jaime Cassesse '07, Kim Cunniff '12, Megan DeCesaris '07, DiSanti, Lauren Hartnett '09, Megan McCreedy '12, Kaitie Notarianni '12, Chelsea Osbrey '04, Julie Ryan (Smith) '01, Amy Sullivan (Cunniff) '05, Shea, Katie Van Nostrand '10 and Lauren Zimniski '13, as well as Bobcats head coach Becca Main, went undefeated in the tournament and collected a $10,000 purse.

"Playing in the 4Goals Cup was an amazing experience," Cassesse said. "The high level of hockey made the tournament even better.Winning the cup wasn't too bad, either!"

The Quinnipiac alumni team featured a slew of all-time greats that collected a total of 20 All-Northeast Conference honors during their careers. Ryan (Smith) was the 2001 Northeast Conference Player of the Year, while she also collected First Team honors. Cunniff won the 2011 NEC Defensive Player of the Year and was a two-time NEC First Team selection. DiSanti and McCreedy are the only two players in program history to win three All-NEC honors for their careers, while Notarianni, Cassesse and Zimniski were all two-time selections. Osbrey, Sullivan (Cunniff), Shea and Van Nostrand all received all-conference honors once during their careers.

Additionally, the alumni roster also features some of the most prolific scorers in program history. Osbrey, Cunniff, Sullivan (Cunniff), Ryan (Smith), Notarianni and Cassesse rank in the Top-20 in goals and points scored. McCreedy finished her career as the Bobcats' career-leader in assists while Cassesse, Osbrey, Ryan (Smith), Hartnett and Sullivan (Cunniff) also rank in the Top-20 in the same category.

4Goals is dedicated to providing outstanding playing opportunities at all levels including the over-35 women's division, the collegiate women's division, U21 Boys, U19 Girls, and U17 Boys. All divisions will be competing for The 4Goals Cup!

The 4Goals Cup is the start of what will eventually become The 4Goals Cup Series.The 4Goals Cup Series will be a year long event in which teams compete in a series of tournaments. The team with the highest point total throughout the year wins The 4Goals Cup Series and the Grand Prize.
