HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University field hockey team recorded a season-high five goals on Friday afternoon, as the Bobcats cruised past Siena College, 5-0, in their 2012 regular-season home finale at the QU Field Hockey Turf. Senior Cate Colucci (Gloucester, R.I.) spearheaded the Bobcats attack with two goals, improving the team's overall record to 11-6, 4-2 in the Northeast Conference.

"There's a great deal of joy when you get to return to AstroTurf from Field Turf," said head coach Becca Main, who felt her team benefitted greatly from a hard week of practice. "We had a really hard week of practice, to the point where we may have been a little tired today. We focused a lot on our corners on the AstroTurf Field and we did a fantastic job executing."

Quinnipiac took control of the game from the opening whistle and peppered the Siena defense with several shots. The Bobcats took nine shots in the first half, two of which found the back of the cage. In the 14th minute of action, sophomore Danielle Allan (Riverdale, N.J.) put away the 12th goal of her career and fourth of the season on an unassisted tally. Allan slammed the backboard with a shot from 10-yards out on the right side for a 1-0 advantage.

Fewer than three minutes after that, junior Christa Romano (Madison, N.J.) joined the party with her third goal of the season. Coach Main stressed the importance of executing on penalty corners, and Quinnipiac did just that in the 16th minute. On a tremendous offensive stand, senior Lauren Zimniski (Dallas, Pa.) found Romano on the backend of the play for a 2-0 lead. The Bobcats carried the comfortable 2-0 lead into halftime.

After the break, Colucci and the Bobcat offense provided senior goalkeeper Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) with even more breathing room. Three minutes into the second stanza, Colucci registered her third goal of the season off a feed from Jennalise Taylor (Yardley, Pa.). The tandem wasn't through yet however, as Colucci collected her fourth goal of the season just four minutes later. On nearly an identical play, Taylor found Colucci again, increasing the Bobcat lead to 4-0.

Quinnipiac tacked on one more in the 48th minute, when Ashleigh Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) concluded the scoring summary with her second goal of the season. Taylor was credited with her third assist of the game and seventh of the season. She became just the fourth player in the Northeast Conference to record three assists in one game this season.

Quinnipiac is 17-1 all-time against Siena, including a 9-1 record in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac won the first three meetings between the two teams before Siena's only win in the series on Oct. 15, 2000, 2-1, in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac has won 14 straight, and have outscored the Saints, 45-5, in their last 12 meetings.

The Bobcats return to the turf on Sunday, October 28 with their regular-season finale at Bryant University. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
