Three Bobcats Score As Field Hockey Defeats Brown, 3-2
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University field hockey team defeated Brown, 3-2, in a non-conference match-up at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac improves to 6-4 while Brown drops to 2-5 on the season.
Three different Bobcats scored in their final non-conference home game of the season as Danielle Allan (Riverdale, N.J.), Haley Swartz (Downington, Pa.) and Christa Romano (Madison, N.J.) all found the back of the cage.
Allan put Quinnipiac on the board just 6:26 into the game when she collected a rebound off a shot by Amanda Danziger (Smithtown, N.Y.) and deposited the game's first goal. The goal was Allan's third of the season and third in as many games.
Brown responded when Alexis Miller played a pass off a corner to the left of Quinnipiac goalkeeper Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.). The ball found Clayton Christus' stick who re-directed the pass behind Lewis to tie the game at 1-1.
In the 26th minute, Jennalise Taylor (Yardley, Pa.) dribbled the ball into the circle and fired a pass across the goal mouth where Swartz one-timed the ball past Brown's Shannon McSweeney to give Quinnipiac a 2-1 as both team's headed to halftime. The goal was Swartz's first career goal while Taylor picked up her team-leading fifth assist of the season.
With 16 minutes remaining, the Bobcats found themselves with a corner. Romano, the Bobcats' inserter found stick-stop Lauren Zimniski (Dallas, Pa.) at the top of the circle. Zimniski attempted to move the ball to her right, but it was deflected by a Brown defender. Danziger picked up a loose ball, maneuvered around a Brown player and fired a shot on goal where Romano tipped the ball past McSweeney to give Quinnipiac a two-goal lead.
Brown threatened moments later when Miller scored with 13:30 left on the clock on a pass from Christus. Quinnipiac managed to hold off the late Bears' charge for their sixth win of the season.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 30 when it travels to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard in a non-conference match-up at Jordan Field at 2 p.m.
